Now or Never - Virtual Counseling in the Age of COVID-19

Webinar

Have you thought about starting your own practice and what that would look like? You may have considered a virtual practice, but it is needed now more than ever before! Clients who would have preferred seeing you in person are happy to still see you, even through telehealth. Clients who had priorities to lifestyle changes may have to focus on this to treat current conditions due to changes in the health care system. How do you get ready for a telehealth practice?

Objectives:

  • Provide resources to starting a private practice. Review steps to setting up a business, applying for Medicare and private insurance.
  • Review the Nutrition Care Process in the setting of telehealth. Review obtaining information from the patient, building a relationship, making goals and a plan with a client that will keep them engaged.
  • Review current guidelines for telehealth and changes related to Covid19 to ensure a smooth process
  • Reviewed how to set up a platform both free and ones that include an electronic medical record.

Megan Reynolds, MS, RD, CSR, LD

Megan Reynolds is a registered dietitian in private practice in Cleveland. She completed her undergraduate degree at Kent State University in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2005, dietetic internship at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, and master’s degree in nutrition at Case Western Reserve University in 2006. After her dietetic internship, she worked at the Cincinnati VA, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and a few different dialysis units. She currently has her own private practice and serves as adjunct faculty in the Cuyahoga Community College Dietetic Technician program. Three years ago, she had an opportunity to work as a contract dietitian with a national telehealth program seeing employees of different companies. Telehealth allowed her to see patients that may not make an appointment normally with a dietitian and develop a relationship and meet their goals. She was able to see the impact of using counseling skills and evidence-based guidelines to help clients establish goals and meet them. Megan notes this gave her the confidence to start incorporating it into her own private practice. She looks forward to sharing what she has learned and helping you start your own telehealth private practice.
